Composing Wedding Thank You Notes

The wedding is over, the reception was a blast, and the honeymoon was a romantic retreat. But now you are back home, freshly married and the proud owner of a large selection of wedding gifts that will hopefully get your marriage started on the right foot. After you open the gifts and start finding room for them in your home, or storing them in a back closet, it is important not to forget to thank all of those who gave you these gifts.

Thank you notes

Start writing thank you notes immediately after the hubbub of the wedding has subsided. It's easy to put off writing thank you notes, so start writing as soon as possible. After opening your gifts, make a list of which person gave you each item. This will allow every thank you note to be extra personalized. You can even jot down how you plan on using each item as part of this list, so that you have some notes on hand when you begin to write letters to those that attended your wedding. After you have compiled a complete list of guests and gifts, you are now ready to move on to selecting and composing your thank you notes.

Thank you notes can come in a variety of designs, but to maintain a personal touch to each note, keep the cards simple. Go for subtle designs on the cover of the card that are accompanied by a brief bit of text that expresses sincerity. This could be a meaningful quote or brief words of gratitude. The inside of the card should be blank. This will draw all attention to your personal note and will help your reader recognize that the note has been specialized for him or her. Handwritten notes show that extra effort has been put into composing each card.

When you begin writing the body of the text, be sure to personally thank each of your guests for attending your wedding. If you want, you can add any anecdote that you may remember with each person from the special day. Next, you can proceed to thank them for their gift. Acknowledge the gift, and let the recipient of the thank you note know how you plan on using it in your home or in the future. To conclude the note, thank the recipient once again, and then express your desire to keep in touch in the future.

Once you have completed the body of each card, you are now ready to address, stamp, and seal each envelope. Afterward, take a trip to the post office or the nearest mailbox to send them off. Your friends and family will appreciate your notes, and you may even get a thank you in return for being just as thoughtful as they were!
