Do-It-Yourself Wedding Flowers: Homemade Centerpieces

One of the unexpected costs of a wedding is the price of floral arrangements. While your average bunch of flowers may not seem to be that expensive there are substantial increases when you start talking to florists about the cost of your centerpieces for your wedding day.

To save on money you may want to consider making your own centerpieces; whilst this may seem like a daunting task at first it is a huge expense saver and allows you to inject more of your own personality into your big day and don't worry you won't have to do it all alone (all bridesmaids do is ask what they can do to help) the night before the wedding gather all your female relatives and wedding party members in the home and get started.

Before you have this all night gathering you may want to invest in a few flowers at an earlier date so that you can determine exactly what you are going to do as, after all, practice makes perfect.

There are many wholesale flower sellers that you can find online with a simple search; decide on your color scheme and the flowers that you would like and then start doing your research. You are going to want to place your order at least 6-8 weeks before the day and, if you want to order samples, place the order earlier if possible. Arrange for the delivery to made either the day before or two days before your wedding (be sure that someone will be at the delivery address to receive the flowers).

Once your delivery arrives be sure to have sufficient containers available to place the blooms in fresh water, you will want to remove approximately one inch of the stem from the flowers before you put them in water, then place them in a cool dark room.

Chose either a clear vase or one that is in a secondary color on your scheme to reduce clashes and make sure that they are not so tall that they will obstruct the view of guests seated at the table, if you want to have additional bulk then you can pick foliage from local trees or your garden to reduce your costs further and pick flowers with a more stunning impact that will stand out from the greenery.

Most of all you want to pick something that you love - whether it is a single rose, orchids or daisies with local green surroundings the important thing is that you are happy with it.
