The first thing that you need to do is assess your personal finances; you do not want to strain your finances to have an elaborate wedding. You need to have a ball park figure so that you can plan your wedding budget accordingly. The second thing that you need to do is put together a guest list so that you know how many people will attend the wedding; the more people you invite the more money you will have to pay for food, a reception hall, invitations, etc. The third thing that you need to do is pick a pick the site for your wedding and your reception; these are crucial expenses that cannot be changed after the invitations have been sent out. The fourth thing that you need to do is put together a list of necessities for your wedding; these items will have to be put into the budget first because they are top priority. Smaller weddings are more cost effective and can be more intimate whereas large weddings are more expensive and take more time to plan and coordinate. You can save money on your wedding by doing the following: have your friends take digital wedding photographs instead of hiring a photographer, ask culinary students to make your wedding cake and cater the event, buy wedding rings that cost less than two thousand dollars, do not go overboard on the flowers, and provide alcohol but do not allow there to be an open bar.
